Simon Fitzpatrick

Simon has practised as a barrister in Sydney since 2010. Before that he worked in New York for eight years, taught at the University of Sydney Law School, and was an associate at the High Court of Australia.

Simon has appeared as junior counsel in representative proceedings in the Federal Court, ICAC investigations (both for a person affected and as counsel assisting the Commission), and commercial matters in the Federal Court and NSW Supreme Court. He also appears unled in the Federal Court and the NSW Supreme and District Courts. He was recognised by ‘Best Lawyers in Australia’ (9th ed, 2017) in the area of ‘Litigation’.

Simon’s practice focuses on commercial and corporate law, equity, public law, trade practices, defamation and media, and intellectual property. Given his experience in America, Simon has a particular interest in proceedings with a US dimension (including the taking of depositions in Australia), and advising US clients on aspects of Australian law.

Since June 2016, Simon has served as a volunteer Director of the Marrickville Legal Centre.
