The Hon Richard White SC


The Hon. Richard White SC was appointed a judge of the NSW Supreme Court in 2004. He sat in the Equity Division until 2017, when he was appointed a judge of appeal. From 2017 he sat in the Court of Appeal. He retired as a judge in December 2024.
As a judge of the Equity Division Mr White decided disputes concerning, amongst other things, real property, corporations, directors’ duties, insolvency, wills and estates, the interpretation of contracts and remedies for breach, partnerships, trusts and insurance. In the Court of Appeal he dealt with the full gamut of civil litigation that can be conducted in State Courts.
He graduated in 1977 from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours and the University medal. He practised as a solicitor from 1979 to 1986 at the firm now known as King & Wood Mallesons, including for 4 years as a litigation partner. In 1986 he was admitted to the Bar; practising from Seven Wentworth chambers from 1988. He was appointed silk in 1998.
Mr White is available to act as an arbitrator, referee, expert, or mediator; to provide neutral evaluations; and to advise.
